First Noel – Layout Inspiration

October 10, 2018

Nobody does a double layout better than Jowilna.
Today we share a stunning one she has created using the new First Noel Christmas collection.

Papers: First Noel Collection – P2613 Wrapped | P2615 Wonderful | P2616 Holy Night | P2618 Hark | P2621 Starry
KC Products:CT946 Collectables | FL364 Flourishes | SS372 Sticker Sheet | Double Sided Tape
Other:Gesso, Gold Leafing

[step 1]
To create the background for your layout, use double sided tape and adhere WRAPPED and HOLY NIGHT together at the back.

[step 2]
Decide the placement of your photo and make small pencil marks.
Use gesso to add some interest to the background by painting a frame around the photo area.
Leave the gesso to dry.

[step 3]
Cut out elements from your patterned papers HARK, WRAPPED, and WONDERFUL.
Ink the edges of the elements to hide any cutting marks.

[step 4]
Use double sided tape and adhere your matted photo 8cm (3 ¼”) from the left edge
and 4.5cm (1 ¾ “) from the bottom of your background.

[step 5]
Use a 5mm and 2cm wide double-sided tape and create a corner using the tape.
Adhere the thinner tape first and then the wider tape to create a corner around the bottom right hand corner of your photo.

[step 6]
Remove the backing from the double-sided tape.

[step 7]
On the sticky taped areas add gold leafing liberally and flatten with your fingers until the entire piece of tape is covered in gold.
Use a soft flat medium sized paint brush and remove brush over the gold leafing until it gives a nice smooth finish.
Brushing the leafing will also remove any excess flakes.
Return the excess back into your container.

[step 8]
Adhere your cut-out wreath in the top right-hand side of your layout.
Use a combination of cut out twigs, leaves and collectable elements and adhere them to the wreath.
Add 2 gold birds on either side.

[step 9]
Add cut out gift boxes, houses and other elements to finish off your layout. Add diamante and white paint splash.

Card Making Collections HOW TO: Tutorial

Step by Step – Create You Own Background

October 4, 2018

How to create your own background using Template and Inks
– Jowilna Nolte (Design Team)

Have you ever wanted to make a card but didn’t quite have the right coloured cardstock?

Jowilna will show you how to not only create a gorgeous watercolored image,
but create your own unique background using one of your templates from your stash.

Papers: Peachy – P2623 Aura
KC Products: CS337 Clear Stamp | Collectables | IT026 Damask Mini Designer Template
Other:Black VersaFine Clair | Clear Embossing Powder | Orange Inks
White Versamagic Ink | watercolour Paint | Sharpie Markers | Shimmer Pen | Smooth White Cardstock

Step by Step Instructions
[step 1]
Ink a piece of white cardstock with the direct to paper method using Memento Luxe Orange ink pad.

[step 2]
Ink over the dark orange ink on the white cardstock using a lighter shade of orange VersaMagic ink pad.
Make sure you blend the lighter shade nicely over the darker orange for a softer peachy look.

[step 3]
Use the Damask Template and white VersaMagic ink and blend through the template
using a finger dauber to add a design to the inked background.
Trim your background d to fit onto your card front once the ink has dried.

[step 4]
Emboss 2 large flowers onto white cardstock using the Clear stamp.
Stamp the flowers in black VersaFine Clair ink and sprinkle with clear embossing powder.
Use a heat gun to set the embossing powder.
The embossed flowers make colouring in a lot easier as the embossed lines will keep the colour inside the lines.
Use a combination of metallic and plain watercolour paint to add colour to the flowers.
On the smaller flower I used Sharpie markers to add a darker shade of colour.

[step 5]
Trim one of the flowers smaller.
Use a shimmer pen to add shine to your coloured flowers and leave to dry.

[step 6]
Adhere the trimmed down coloured background to your card and
stamp the sentiment in the top left-hand corner.

[step 7]
Trim a scalloped edge from the AURA paper and ink the edges.

[step 8]
Adhere the AURA strip flush with the top edge of your card using 6mm double sided tape.
Trim off any overlapping pieces of the strip on the side and ink the edges again to finish it off nicely.
Adhere a small butterfly from the collectables pack on the right side of the strip.

[step 9]
Use double sided tape and foam tape to adhere the flowers to the card.
Trim some of the overlapping pieces off.
Add finishing touches with rhinestones and sequins.
