Christmas Edition with a pop of colour by Jowilna Nolte

September 12, 2017

Hi everyone, Jowilna here with my Tuesday Tutorial showing you how easy it is to add a pop of color to paper and elements in a few easy steps.
I love the Christmas Edition Range of papers, but somehow Christmas doesn’t seem right without a bit of color. So I naturally wanted to add
some color to the range and found a really easy way to achieve it.
Sharpie markers were used to add color to the background paper used on my card, as well as some of the collectables.
The elements and paper took the color really well
and made for a striking finishing product – showing just how versatile this range really is.

The secret to coloring is to layer different colors so that you can add highlights and shadows and achieve beautiful shading.
How to color your elements
step 1 – Start by coloring your poinsettia leaves in orange.

step 2 – Next add some bright pink shading down the middle of the leaves and any dark areas printed on the image.

step 3 – Finish off the leaves with a layer of red. The orange and pink combined with the red makes for a beautiful rich color perfect for Christmas.

step 4 – Trim the background paper to size to fit onto the front of your card.

TIP:  Select three shades of green markers to add color to your leaves. Start with the lightest green working to the darkest green and then blend over everything with the light green again for a seamless effect.

step 5 – Color some holly leaves from your collectables pack.

step 6 – Position your elements together and start layering them onto each other.

step 7 – Use mounting foam dots to adhere some of the elements to add dimension to your card.
Layer the elements underneath each other for interest.

step 8 – Apply glimmer paste through the star stencil.

Add embellishments like buttons, rhinestones and ink splats. Use dimensional glaze to highlight some of the berries on the elements from the collectables pack.

I can’t wait to explore more ways of adding color to this range using different mediums and techniques.
The blank slate means the perfect opportunity for creativity and experiments.
