Jowilna Nolte Layouts Mixed Media Templates Whisper

Double up on Mixed Media Layout

January 17, 2019

I love dabbling in mixed media elements on my layouts. You may think of going overboard but for me, the wisdom lies in knowing when to stop, when you can take something away instead of adding that one thing, then you know you have created something special that focuses on the photo and the story

This range is perfect for those special memories where you may only have a single photo that you can use enlarged to tell your story.

Adhere two sheets of smooth white cardstock together using double sided tape.
Measure about 5cm (2”) from the bottom edge and add stenciling using modelling paste. Leave the paste to dry.

Use your Kaiser mists and add colour to the stenciled images. I combined brown and black together.

Leave the ink to dry. Adhere strips cut from Buff (reverse) patterned paper down the center of your layout on both sides. I used 3 strips of paper on each side.
Cut out elements from patterned papers to use as a backdrop to your photos. I cut pieces from Bisque, Organic and Raw. Arrange the elements to the left and right side of your 7×5” (18x13cm) photo.

Die-cut some leaves and wood chip from white cardstock.

Use your Kaisermists to add colour to the die-cut pieces. First spray the die-cuts with brown mist and then lightly with black mist. Mist with water to make the ink colours mix together and create a beautiful effect.

Adhere the die-cuts to your layout using gel medium or craft glue. Cut some of the wood chips in half and use both halves on your layout.

Add gel medium to the left and right side of your photo and sprinkle with craft sand. Leave to dry and then shake off the excess.

Cut out butterflies from Buff (reverse) sheet and adhere to your layout as per the sample image.

Use stickers and other embellishments to finish off your layout as desired.

A beautiful mixed media layout using the amazing range enhanced by the stunning die-cuts and Kaisermists now available. Remember to have fun and make this your own – use these steps as inspiration and guideline to creating your own masterpiece

Deep Sea Templates

Turtle Template Tutorial

December 13, 2018

The new turtle template that has been released with this months Deep Sea collection, is fast becoming one of my favourites.

Why you may ask?  Well you only have to look at this collection to see I love turtles, but more on that later.
So what can you do with this template and how?

Why not make your own turtle embellishment to add to a scrapbooking page or add to a card.

SHADED effect.

Using a blending tool, swipe (blend) through a combination of coordinating coloured inks and shade areas as desired.

OPAQUE textured effect

Mix pigment ink into Derivan Light Modelling Paste (or similar product) and spread through the template like icing a cake.
Over the shell areas, lightly pat the pallet knife to give a raised textured effect.  Allow to dry or speed up using a heat gun.

GLAZED shaded effect

In this example, like the first, I have shaded the turtle by blending inks through the template but before
removing the template I have given the shell of the turtle a coat of Gel Medium creating a glazed shell effect.

(PS: the brown in the above is NOT ink – this is what happens when you put
your heat gun too close to your paper… great effect though)

TRANSLUCENT effect

As with the Opaque turtle above – I have used ink to colour the medium.  But this time I have mixed our dye based ink into
Derivan Gel Medium.  As this medium drys clear you can create your own awesome shell effects.

Experiment with different colours to  create more realistic shell effects or just to play with colours that you love.

Below is a quick video showing you how I created these effects.

Kaiser Mists Mixed Media Scrap Studio Stamps Templates

Art Journal Page Tutorials by Kasia and Tatiana

November 19, 2018

Hello guys.. Kasia and Tatiana here today with an Art Journal Page.

Scrap studio screams mixed media and art journal to me and I loved using the different elements together with the new Kaiser Mists and Kaiser Ink pads to create this page. .

The colours of the mists are so vibrant and blend beautifully together, leaving a lovely shimmer when dry.

White Gesso, Texture Paste, Gel Medium.

INSTRUCTIONS BELOW or
you can download printable version HERE

Tear small pieces of the Scrap Studio Paper pad papers and randomly adhere with gel medium to the page.

Roughly paint on white gesso to blend in the background.

When dry add the two doily stickers from the sticker sheet to the top and bottom of your page.

Adhere small bundled strips of muslin with gesso and allow to dry well.

Adhere strips from the sticker sheet, EXPRESSIONS and the paper pad down the bottom left of your page, slightly overlapping one another.

Apply texture paste through the two templates around your cluster of strips and allow to dry really well before moving to the next step.

Spray the Denim and Turquoise mists to the bottom left of your page and add a couple of sprays of water to help the colour move further. Add some sprays of yellow to the upper right of the page and allow to move into the blues to create a nice transition of green. Allow to dry really well and add another coat of colour if you like.

Using the permanent ink stamp a couple of butterflies, dots, film strip and doily images to add some texture and depth to your page.

Finish off by adding a couple of title strips from the sticker sheet and 3 fussy cut butterflies.

Lastly add a few splatters using the black mist.

I had so much fun creating this page I kept on going and playing with the mists a little more.

Below are a couple extra inspiration pages for you.

Beach Shack Templates

3 Tips for Using a Template and Video Tutorial

February 28, 2018

New Ripples Template

This month Kaisercraft has released a new Template IT460 – Ripples.  This is the perfect Template for your “beachy” or water inspired projects and co-ordinates perfectly with the new Beach Shack Collection.

IT460 – Ripples

3 Tips for Using Templates

Today the Design Team have collated 3 helpful Tips for using Templates in your crafting…

Tip #1 – Using Inks

‘Barefoot Welcome’ ~ by Renee Aslette

Firstly, using Inks through your template is a great way to create a small, controlled pattern.  In this layout, Renee has inked her Template to create a background for her clusters of embellishments.

KC PRODUCTS:  Beach Shack Collection: P2472 Foam (Reverse) | P2470 Board Walk (Reverse) | CT930 Collectables | SS356 Sticker Sheet | CD650 12 x 12 Smooth – White | CB153 Corrugated Cardboard Sheets | SB715 Pearls – Latte | IT460 6 x 6 Designer Template – Ripples | DD599 Decorative Die – Wooden Fence | LDB1059 Natural Twine | T315 Double Sided Tape | T302 Mounting Foam Dots | T321 Acid Free Craft Glue

OTHER: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide – Faded Jeans & Frayed Burlap

Tip #2 – Using Mists

“Sun and Sand” Layout By ~ Alicia McNamara

Secondly, using Mists through your template can create a real “watery” effect.  Alicia has used the Template to decorate the background page in her layout and it looks similar to the ripples in the water at the pool or at the beach.  In comparison to using inks, you have less control over the end result when using Mists.

Other: Misting Spray | Cheesecloth

Tip #3 – Use Modeling Paste and Water Colours

“Happy Birthday ” Card By ~ Donna Espiritu

Thirdly, Donna used modeling paste and watercolours to add interesting texture to her card and envelope. It’s a nice way to personalize any cards.

KC PRODUCTS:  Beach Shack Collection: PP1037 Paper Pad | CT930 Collectables | IT460 6 x 6 Designer Template – Ripples | DD808 Decorative Die – Porthole | CD501 White Card Pack | T315 Double Sided Tape | T302 Mounting Foam Dots | T321 Acid-Free Craft Glue

OTHER: White thread | Watercolours | Modeling Paste
