Documented Pen Holder by Mabel Sim

January 9, 2018

Hi Everyone!

I’m Mabel and I’m back to share with you a off-the-page piece that is really simple to make. I had DIY-ed a pen holder that comes in real handy with my increasing pen collection. I will be sharing with you how I had created this pen holder with Kaisercraft’s new collection Documented.

First, I had started out with a toilet roll that I had gotten from my office janitor as it has a bigger diameter more suitable for a pen holder. I had taken Black acrylic paint from Kaisercolour to paint the exterior and interior of the roll black.

To form the base, I had traced the exterior circumference of the roll on a
scrap piece of cardboard and cut it out.

I had also painted it black followed by apply glue on the circumference such that I can
glued it onto one end of the roll to create the base.

Don’t worry about the open edges as it will soon be covered by burlap strings.

I had also cut a strip of P2460 Library Ephemera (flipped side) while coiling burlap strings
on top and bottom of my pen holder.

Ta-da! The final look after embellishments!

Kaisercraft’s sticker sheet and collectables had made embellishing your work so much easier. There’s no need for fussy cutting and it had made entire crafting process so much faster and convenient.

To tie all elements together, I had brush on white gesso to give it a white wash effect. It also works well as a finishing touch.

Kaisercraft products: Documented Collection – SS355 Sticker Sheet | P2460 Library Ephemera (flipped) |  CT898 Collectables | T302 Mounting Foam Dots | T321 Acid Free Craft Glue | KC031 Kaisercolour Black

Others: White Gesso, Toilet Roll, Cardboard, Burlap Strings

That’s all for my short tutorial today.

It is easy and not time-consuming to recreate. I hope you will feel inspired by my project to recreate one of your own and input your style into it. Do share with us your take on this inspiraiton.

Layouts Mabel Sim Open Road

‘Road Trip’ Layout by Mabel Sim

December 11, 2017

Hi Everyone!

It’s Mabel again and I am here to share a layout I created with the new Open Road Collection.

Ain’t the colours rich and vibrant from this collection? Not only is it perfect for a travel theme, but also perfect for a masculine theme.

To give off a more distress feel, I had palette knife to swipe on some heavy white gesso to create a white wash effect. I had also used texture paste over stencil to create some dimension.

To add on the distress look, I had decided to tear off edges of the paper instead of trimming it perfectly. The torn edges of papers fit in perfectly for this theme.

Kaisercraft products: Open Road Collection  – P2443 Undiscovered | P2444 Prospecting | P2445 Tracks | P2448 Atlas | SS353 Sticker Sheet | CT896 Collectables | IT457 Fern Stencil

Others: Twines | Heavy White Gesso | Texture Paste | Black Marker | Palette Knife

That’s all for my post today!

Hope you like what I did.

Cheers and have a great day ahead!

Summer Stories by Mabel Sim

November 24, 2017

Hi everyone!

I’m Mabel and I’m back to share a fun summer layout perfect for your beach vacation photos!

The specialty paper (PS506) had made watercolouring the words with the colour of your choice so much easier! All parts were embossed except for the words, hence I had just randomly applied the watercolours and let it performed its own magic.

Mabel Sim Mixed Media NEW Product Rose Avenue

Live. Laugh. Love Canvas by Mabel Sim

October 26, 2017

Hi everyone!

I’m Mabel and I’m here to share with you a canvas piece inspired by the sweet pastel colour combination and the floral theme of Kaisercraft’s new collection Rose Avenue.

My focus for this project would be the textures and the layering. On the background, I had created the desired textures through stencils and texture paste and painted them with harsh colours followed by brushing on uneven coat of gesso such that colours will peek through. Layering was also made easy with the use of ephemera and patterned papers great for fussy cutting.

Kaisercraft Products: Rose Avenue: P2408 Rose Window | P2413 Chalet | SS349 Sticker Sheet | CT892 Collectables | IT453 Stencil Waffle | IT017 Mini Designer Template Blossom | KC010 KaiserColour Hot Pink | KC013 Kaisercolour Dusty Pink | KC002 Kaisercolour Antique White | KM101 KaiserMist Charcoal | T303 Foam Tape | T314 Double Sided Tape

Others: Oval Canvas | White Gesso | White Texture Paste

Letters To Santa Mabel Sim NEW Product Tutorials

Santa Claus Says Merry Christmas! by Mabel Sim

September 26, 2017

Hi everyone!

I’m Mabel and I’m here to share with you a tutorial with the new Letters to Santa Collection to create a simple Christmas themed frame that is so apt for your Christmas display.

I first start with a 8×8 inches shadow box which I prepped it with an even coat of white gesso. You can also use any white acrylic paint/white opaque paint to replace gesso if you do not own one.

In the meantime, while waiting for the gesso to dry, cut down P2388 Christmas Poinsettia as a base.

I had also fussy cut out my centrepiece for today with P2395 Be Merry. I trimmed out the circle sentiment and mount it on foam tapes to give it some dimension.

Layering is always the key to make your project looks sophisticated. It is actually a very simple technique of arranging your pieces together on different heights. For this time round, I am making use of the rim of the shadowbox to show different layers. I had fussy cut out Mr. Santa from P2389 Dear Santa and stuck it to the bottom corner of my frame.

To balance out the opposite end, I am also adhering pieces from the CT890 Collectables as well as from P2393 Holly & Berries, followed by Christmas streamers from SS347 Sticker Sheet.

Adding pulled cheese cloth will also add some additional interest to the project.

Simply cut down the cheese cloth to tiny bits and tug it gently for the strings to break apart from its usual placement, adhere them to the bottom of your flowers.

Here’s the final look and some close up pictures. :)

Kaisercraft products: Letters to Santa Collection – SS347 Sticker Sheet | P2388 Christmas Poinsettia | P2389 Dear Santa | P2393 Holly & Berries | P2395 Be Merry | CT890 Collectables | RS450 Rhinestones Strip Red | T302 Mounting Foam Dots | T321 Acid Free Craft Glue

Others: Shadow Box, White Gesso, Cheese Cloth

That’s all for my tutorial. Simple ain’t it?
