Tuesday Tip Mixed Media & Templates

November 6, 2012

Good morning, Hetty here with you today. Have you seen Kaisercrafts new Templates yet? If not then you are missing out. There are 9 gorgeous styles and today I would like to share with you a little mixed media plaque I created featuring the doily template (T401) and the Pickled Pear Collection.

Materials Used: Standard Square Plaque (W048), Pickled Pear Collection – Paper Pad (PP883), Sticker Sheet (SS159), Collectables (CT735), Template – Doily (T401), Wooden Flourishes – Fancy Hearts (FL316) and Oval Lace Frame (FL369) , Ribbon Roses – Cream (R702), Paper Blooms – Honey (F628) and Olive (F633), Mini Paper Blooms – Black (F661), Pearl Flourishes – Elegant Pearl (PL507), Pearl Brads – Pearl (EM930), Foam Tape (T303).

Other: Gesso, Texture Paste, Mists, Leaves, Stamen, Diamond Dust, Enamelz.

And here is how I made it:

I used the small Square Plaque (W048)  turned it over and covered the back with a thick layer of gesso.

From the Pickled Pear Paper Pad (PP883) I tore several pieces of paper in different patterns and stuck them in the gesso on my plaque.

I then covered the pieces of paper with more gesso making sure that some of the pattern still shows through.

Next I chose some matching sprays. Here I used Sprinklers by October Afternoon, Miss Mary Mack, Hitching Post and Robot Blue. If you don’t have any sprays to match why not try using some Kaisercolour and mixing it with water, put it in a spray bottle and away you go. Some great colours to use would be Soft Moss (KC052), Mocha (KC049) and Olive (KC046).

Use a tissue to soak up some of the excess spray, it also gives a nice effect on the gesso.

Next I used my doily template and put it on my plaque as shown in the below photo, slightly hanging off the edge. I then covered it with texture paste or modelling paste using my spatula wiping from the inside out.

Peel back the template a little, have a look and make sure there is enough texture paste, then pull it off gently.

Spray with more of your mists to blend it in with the rest of your plaque. I sprinkled on some Enamelz and Diamond Dust to give it that sparkly look.

Decorate with your favourite Pickled Pear and other Kaisercraft products. Use some gesso on your embellishments to blend them in. I finished it off with the heat gun to melt in the Enamelz and Diamond Dust.

Here is a close up of the template:

And there you have it, a cute little plaque, which you could give away to a dear friend or keep yourself. Why not have a go, there are lots more awesome templates to choose from:

I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial, thank you for stopping by.

Till next time.

Hetty xx
