Little Things Wandering Ivy Layout Tutorial by Jowilna Nolte

December 12, 2017

Hi everyone – today I am sharing this double page layout created using the gorgeous Wandering Ivy Collection. For the tutorial portion I am sharing how I created
some interest on my background as well as using my die-cuts in a cheat way to add color instantly without worrying to tear or damage the fine delicate cuts made.
Lets take a look how I created my elements…
On my background I created some layered filled in circles with hand sewn details around the edges. So quick and easy to achieve but with a stunning end result.

For my flower cluster I wanted to use the beautiful Ivy die-cut. But the part I hate most about die-cuts is adding color to them once they are cut.
Especially with those delicate pieces that tear and break so easily So here’s my cheat way of adding color and cutting them without any fuss.

Step 1 – Turn the die-cut over and ink the flat side (back) of your die using 2 or more shades of green ink.
Lightly tap the ink onto the surface to ink it.

Step 2 – Carefully lift the die and place it onto your cardstock with the inked side on white cardstock.
Feed it through your die-cutting machine with your rubber matt in place. This will transfer the ink onto the cardstock and created a light embossed image as well.

Step 3 – Remove the cardstock from your machine. Lift the die-cut to reveal the now debossed and color transferred image.

Step 4 – Leave the ink to dry or heat set using a heat gun. Flip your cardstock over and position the die on the raised area of the image visible at the back.
Place the die and keep it in place with some washi tape. Now cut the image from the back.

TIP: You have to cut from the back in order to line the die up correctly with the colored image on the front.

Now cut the shape by putting it through your die-cutting machine. Remove the cut and coloured image.

And that’s how I quickly and easily add color to my image and then cut it without any fuss.

How to create the stitches circles on your background.

Step 5 – Use an anywhere circle cutter. I used my old fashioned one that I can adjust to any size circle.
Cut several circles out of your background and in different sizes.

Step 6 – Cut scraps of your patterned paper slightly bigger than your circles.

Step 7 – Back the cutout circles with the patterned paper pieces by adhering the pieces to the back of your cut out circles.
Use your paper piercer to make holes inside and even outside of the circles. Sew the circles using embroidery thread for a beautiful dimensional effect.

What have you created with the beautiful Wandering Ivy Collection? The sweetest and most beautiful collection…until the next one.
Happy scrapping Jowilna

“I Do” Layout By Melissa Kennedy

Materials Used:
These Days Paper Collection, Collectables, Sticker Sheet, CD107 Eggshell Cardstock, R707 Ribbon Roses- Peach (available in March), FL370 Cameo, EM927 Cream Lace, RB917 In Love Rub On, F652 Terracotta Mini Paper Blooms. OTHER: Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink, Paper Doilies – small and large.

“Saturday Sketch: #3 February”

Today we have Lori Leng who has made a layout from the above sketch!

“Puppy Love” Layout by Lori Leng

KaiserCraft Products Used: Tiny Woods Collection including: P794 Cedar, P795 Sycamore, P791 Cypress, RB956 Rub ons, PP862 Paper Pad, CS760 Tags Stamp, Mini Alpha Stickers MA505

Other Products Used: Twine, Embossing Folders, Punches, Sanding Paper, Distress Ink

Lori Says:
“The circles were run through the embossing folder and then lightly sanded to bring out the white core of the paper.
(This is my favorite technique) I applied red distress ink on the corner of the large photo and then ran the photo through an embossing folder over the distressed area only.   I sanded the picture lightly on the embossed area to reveal the flourish.  This helps to connect the picture and the circle embellishments with the same flourish motif.
The lollipop flowers were created by punching them out with a hand punch in various sizes of circles and scalloped circles, inked the edges and then distressed the edges with scissors.  Don’t be afraid if you tear the paper a little, that adds to the distressed look. I then used a ball tip tool and foam pad, and pressed and creased the edges to give the irregular raised scalloped edges and then layered the flower offset.
I created the leaves of the flowers using twine.  The trick here is to use a glue with a metal tip attachment for a very very fine line of glue.  I basically drew with the glue tip and then applied the twine on top.”

From these sketches (depending on how many Saturday’s there are), you have that many chances to create a layout of your own and upload it to any gallery of your choice, or in a blog post, facebook page, the Kaisercraft Gallery etc.

Once your layout is complete and uploaded along with the sketch name/number and month, link your layout into the comments section of the approapriate sketch blog post and you’re entry is complete!

The prize:

1st PLACE: One of Kaisercraft’s new collections (valued at approximately $50).

2nd PLACE: A Kaisercraft scrap pack (including new products) valued at approximately $30.

Let’s have a closer look at Kerryn and Kirsty’s layouts:

“Double layouts (and sketches) can seem overwhelming.  Don’t feel that you have to try and fit everything in though.  Start with the number of photos you would like to use and build from there.  I have only used 3 4×6 photos but you can still clearly see the sketch within my layout.

I have used a couple of embellishment clusters in place of extra photos.  Make the sketch work for you and you will find that they aren’t as hard as they might seem”.

Kerryn Lawson: Products Used:After Five patterned paper Tuxedo (P581), Black Tie (P582), Cocktail (P583) and Crevat (P588), Paper flowers – snow (F601), Pearl flourishes – Elegant Pearl (PL507), Rhinestone flourishes – Decorative Island Lagoon (RS465), After Five diecut elements (DC329), Lush Black Rubons (RB867), After Five Quote rubons (RB884), Alpha Stickers – White (AS221) & Powder Blue (AS219, Secret Bird Society patterned paper – Private diecut (PS109), Be Merry patterned paper – Glee (P557), Homemade patterned paper – Simple Stitches (P568), Lush Colour rubons (RB868), After Five Borders Rubons (RB883), Rhinestones – Ice Blue (SB774), Pearls – Teal (SB783), Ink – Antique Blue (IP716), Lace – Black (EM929), After Five Champagne transparency (PS125), Paper tags & shapes – white (EM923), After Five 6×6 paper pad (PP833). Other products used : Prima butterfly, glimmermist, punches, kindyglitz, sizzix die, flowerbuds.

“I liked using this sketch! I managed to overcome my fear of Double page LOs easily, because this sketch made it easy to see where everything should go to give a balanced LO! The little tab above the photo on the left hand side, prompted me to add some extra hidden photos and journalling to my page!”

Kirsty Piper ‘September 2009′, Seaside – Patterned Paper; Coastline(P595), Rock Pools(P592), Umbrella(P591), Escape(P593), Seaside Other- Clear Stamps (CS767), 6’ Paper Pad(PP834), Die Cut Elements(DC330), Canvas Tags Embellishment Pack(EM942), Printed Chipboard(CB118).
