Card Making Tuesday Tips

Tuesday Tip – Multicoloured rosette flowers

January 18, 2011

For this tip, I have opted to use the circle punch for the basic shape and used a scallop punch for the latter one but handcutting would also work fine as long as the two shapes are identical in nature.

Using a circle punch – cut 2 circles of the contrasting colours.

Make a slit in the circles for the outer edge to just past the centre point of the circle.

Insert one circle into the other and rotate to get the desired look.

Finish off with a brad or buttons.

Here are a selection of simple cards I have made using this technique.

Card 1:

Card 2:

Card 3:

For something on a bigger scale used scallop and circle punches of various sizes and repeat process above.  Starting from the biggest, layer the circles distressing the edges as you go to make a multicoloured rosette.

Materials list: After Five – Card Pad, After Five – 6″ Paper Pad, After Five paper – Cocktail, After Five paper- Black Tie, Kaisercraft – Mini Clear Stamps – Thinking of You, Black Ribbon, Black Ink, Misc Brads and Buttons

It is a great way to use those little offcuts and with the double sided patterned papers from Kaisercraft – the colour matching has already been done for you.

Challenges Saturday Sketches

Saturday Sketch – January #1

January 8, 2011

Happy New Year folks!!

A new year means a fresh new look, and over the coming weeks, the Kaisercraft Blog will be given a little facelift!

Starting with that cute heading you see up above – easy to read and find!!

For those who are unfamilar with our MONTHLY SATURDAY SKETCH challenge, here’s what happens:

The rules:

Each Saturday every month a new sketch and inspirational layouts will be posted here on the blog. From these sketches (depending on how many Saturday’s there are), you have that many chances to create a layout of your own and upload it to any gallery of your choice, or in a blog post, facebook page, the Kaisercraft Gallery etc.

Once your layout is complete and uploaded along with the sketch name/number and month, link your layout into the comments section of the approapriate sketch blog post and you’re entry is complete!

The deadline:

Comment on this post (or other January sketch posts) with your linked layout before 31st January.

The prize:

1st PLACE: One of Kaisercraft’s new collections (valued at approximately $50).

2nd PLACE: A Kaisercraft scrap pack (including new products) valued at approximately $30.

Let’s have a closer look at Kerryn and Kirsty’s layouts:

“Double layouts (and sketches) can seem overwhelming.  Don’t feel that you have to try and fit everything in though.  Start with the number of photos you would like to use and build from there.  I have only used 3 4×6 photos but you can still clearly see the sketch within my layout.

I have used a couple of embellishment clusters in place of extra photos.  Make the sketch work for you and you will find that they aren’t as hard as they might seem”.

Kerryn Lawson: Products Used:After Five patterned paper Tuxedo (P581), Black Tie (P582), Cocktail (P583) and Crevat (P588), Paper flowers – snow (F601), Pearl flourishes – Elegant Pearl (PL507), Rhinestone flourishes – Decorative Island Lagoon (RS465), After Five diecut elements (DC329), Lush Black Rubons (RB867), After Five Quote rubons (RB884), Alpha Stickers – White (AS221) & Powder Blue (AS219, Secret Bird Society patterned paper – Private diecut (PS109), Be Merry patterned paper – Glee (P557), Homemade patterned paper – Simple Stitches (P568), Lush Colour rubons (RB868), After Five Borders Rubons (RB883), Rhinestones – Ice Blue (SB774), Pearls – Teal (SB783), Ink – Antique Blue (IP716), Lace – Black (EM929), After Five Champagne transparency (PS125), Paper tags & shapes – white (EM923), After Five 6×6 paper pad (PP833). “I liked using this sketch! I managed to overcome my fear of Double page LOs easily, because this sketch made it easy to see where everything should go to give a balanced LO! The little tab above the photo on the left hand side, prompted me to add some extra hidden photos and journalling to my page!”
