Any day is a good day for Gelato!

June 29, 2011

Hello. Lesley and Kerryn here today and we are here to share a little bit of Pink Gelato with you all.

Kerryn : At first glance all I saw with Pink Gelato were pastels.  To be honest, I don’t really work with pastels alot.  What surprised me though is that with the addition of just a little touch of colour, Pink Gelato came to life!  I added a nice bright green in my alphabet and a bit of doily trim for that pop of colour that worked perfectly with the pastels of Pink Gelato.

Amanda loves visitng the baby next door. To be honest though I am not sure who is more smitten Amanda or Tyler. With this layout I wanted to emphasise the blues in this gorgeous collection. I have also embossed the chipboard, sanded and then inked it. The letters have been coloured using a cotton bud and distress ink. To ink the edges of small things like letters I use a black pen (instead of a stamp pad) to run the edges of the letters around. Easier to get into those small corners.

Sweet Pink Gelato

June 17, 2011

I really adore the “Pink Gelato” collection because of its unusually soft colours and I was immediately drawn to the umbrellas that feature throughout.

I recently saw a gorgeous layout created by the talented Kim Watson.  She had added stitching and brads to her page to emulate rain drops.  I thought however, instead of using brads, why not try the stunning variety of Kaisercraft rhinestones and pearls on a layout.

“Rain Dance” by Leanne Allinson: Pink Gelato collection – pineapple (p685), blueberry (p682), honey dew (p684); 6.5″ paper pad (pp845); clear stamp (cs779); sticker sheet (ss104); rhinestones – split pea (rs407), island lagoon (rs402); pearls – rose (sb786), chino (sb789), pearl (sb713); ink – sepia (ip709), rose (ip712); sticker alphas – cream (as222).  Other – foam tape, machine stitching, white pen, black pen, butterfly punch, flower punch, border punch.

I think it is quite effective with the shimmering rhinestones and glossy pearls.  No doubt I will be tempted to use this technique again and again! :)

Velvet crush

June 13, 2011

Hi Everyone!  And welcome to a new week of blogging featuring “Velvet Ensemble” and “Pink Gelato”.

This week Vicki, Lady Grace and Leanne are working together to bring you fun and fresh ideas.  Today is all about our little crush on Velvet Ensemble…

Leanne says “This collection is perfect for all of those photos (and we know you have them!) of your miniature stars on stage.  Think of all those school plays and pageants you can now scrap!!!

My daughter has been studying ballet for quite some time now, and every now and then, I get the opportunity to sneak into her lesson and take photos.  I love these open days and I am so glad I have scrapped about my daughter’s passion.

“Ballerina in Training” by Leanne Allinson:  The Velvet Ensemble – performance (p675), 6.5″ paper pad (pp844); journal tags (jt620); sticker sheet (ss103); grosgrain ribbon – lovely (ri605); paper flowers – burgundy (f611); ink – sepia (ip709), black (ip707); rhinestones – black (sb777); mini alphas – black and white (ma501).  Other – tulle, black pen, machine stitching, star punch, foam tape.

The paper flower has been created from the 6.5″ paper pad and reminds me of a ballerina’s tutu.  I have even managed to sneak some tulle onto my layout as well!”

Vicki says the “Velvet Ensemble” range is truly timeless and so elegant it can fit so many occasions.

It is just perfect for those treasured moments like this one I found in my stash.  I am always behind the camera so to find this photo in my collection was like striking gold!

I have used the “costume” paper as the base for this layout of my little girl and I.

The colours of the range were just perfect for the black and white photo and complemented well with a lace doily, paper flowers and pearls.”

The Circus is in town!!

May 28, 2011

Well…usually in my house, the Circus is in town everyday! And who better to run the Circus than my very own Ring Master! :D

“Ring Master”by Leanne Allinson: Party Animals collection – hooray (p662), woo hoo (p663); 6.5″ paper pad (pp842); ink – sepia (ip709), black (ip707), antique blue (ip716); paint – yellow deep (kc006); alpha stickers – black (as226).  Other – foam tape, black pen, glimmermist, twine.

The “Party Animals” collection is such fun and playful way to scrap the silly antics my children get up to everyday.

I have layered strips of patterned paper from the 6.5″ paper pad, to imitate the circus tents and then layered them with the fussy cutting of a circus tent image (also found in the paper pad).  I love the boldness of the yellow and orange together.

The balancing lions continues with my circus theme but I hardly had to look far for this idea, as this paper collection has wonderful images of clever little animals already performing this type of act!

Like Leanne, I find that there are not many days in our house where the home does not resemble a circus!

Those silly antics Leanne talks about – although a regular thing in our house, I find it a challenge in itself to capture those silly antics to print!

The “Party Animals” range is just a perfect fit for the cute, crazy and funny photos we have managed to capture – like this photo of my daughter taking a drink from the garden hose!

A new chapter…

May 23, 2011

Good-morning Everyone!!  This week, Kerryn, Vicki and I are continuing to hopefully inspire you all with our “Chapter One” and “Party Animals” creations.  Today however, we want to share our fondness of  “Chapter One” ….

I’ve discovered that “Chapter One” can be quite fresh, with its bursts of lime and teal.  And even more so when added to white card-stock and punctuated with touches of black.

“Fly” by Leanne Allinson: Chapter One collection – 6.5″ paper pad (pp843); journal tag (jt619); sticker sheet (ss102); clear stamps – chapter one (cs 777), script (cs752); ink – black (ip707), sepia (ip709); rhinestone strip – lime (rs455); paper bloom – olive(f633), buttercream (f629).  Other – cardstock, string, border punch, foam tape.

For this layout, I was particularly inspired by this quote:

I also wanted to add more detail to the journal tag and was able to achieve this by using the fabulous Chapter One clear stamps.

Kerryn : For me, Chapter One inspired lots of layers.  I chose an older photo of me that was taken in a studio.  I was wrapped in a feather boa so I tried to emulate that feeling with my layers of flowers by keeping them close (and even overlapping) the photo.

I have used plenty of foam tape to add height and dimension as well as adding organza ribbon for a nice soft delicate touch.

To add to the definition of the flowers (as well as highlight the layering), I have lightly inked the edges of each one with a co-ordinating ink.

“Smell the roses” by Kerryn Lawson

Products Used : Chapter One patterned paper – Flourish (P667), Afresh (P665), Chapter One Experience diecut paper (PS148), Chapter One printed chipboard (CB127), Chapter One Paper pad (PP843), Chapter One rubons (RB920), Black rubons – moments (RB904), Rhinestones – Aquamarine (SB775), Organza ribbon – Natural (RI613), Alpha stickers – Sea Breeze (AS220), Black (AS226), Pearl Flourish – Decorative black (PL518), Elegant black (PL510).

Other Products Used : Dymo labeller, chalks, ink.

Vicki:  “The colours of the Chapter One range are simply devine.  The teal and green colours touched with the splashing of black are fabulous and so easy to use.

To show the diversity of the range, I have used it to create a layout of my son when he first got his jade necklace to be just like his daddy – so very cute – and thanks to the colours of the range they fitted perfectly for this layout.

I love the black and white stripes so much I have used them as part of the background, but also for weaving and for the ribbons on the layout.”
