Sunday Scrap Space
This week we’re visiting Design Team Member, Pam Thorburn’s multi-functional ‘scrap space’
Name: Pam Thorburn
Hometown: Edinburgh
Occupation: Advisory teacher for children with Autism
I can’t live without….Earl Grey Tea
My favourite dessert is… anything with chocolate and cream
My inspiration is found here…..Flickr- and you tube.
On my playlist… I don’t have one-I love silence! But that doesn’t happen often and I am forced to listen to my teenagers palylists!!
On my desk… my sewing machine lives on my desk.
What I love the most about Kaisercraft is…that it’s a one stop shop for everything you need for scrapbooking.
And now to have a ‘sticky beak’ at Pam’s scrap space…
“I don’t have my own scrap room. I scrap in my kitchen/family room, spreading out on the dining table and kitchen island unit. I am an exceptionally messy scrapper and can have stash strewn from one end of the room to the other when I am making a layout. However, because this is a public room I have to keep it pretty organised and tidy, so I tidy away after each layout. I actually enjoy scrapping in the kitchen because it means I can multi task. I can add a bit of glossy accents in between cooking the veggies! Glossy accents added to the layout that is, not the veggies! “
All my stash is stored in two units and a desk along one wall of the sitting area. My storage is practical rather than pretty-a bit like me! I mainly use clear plastic boxes so I can see the contents without the need for labels. I like having doors and drawers so I can just shove things away and have the place looking respectable –until you look in!
My favourite storage items are the 12×12 plastic boxes. I store each Kaisercraft collection in its own box, plus I use them to make up LO kits to take to crops. I want to get more to store stamps and inks as well. These boxes stack well and it’s easy to pull out one from the middle or bottom of a stack.
I store flowers loosely grouped by colour; warm, cool and neutrals. Ribbons are stored in small plastic boxes sorted by colour also. Papers are stored vertically in magazine holders. I prefer vertical storage because it takes up less space-and I enjoy flicking through the papers.
As well as scrapping I like to do mixed media/collage art pieces and a fair bit of my space is taken up with art materials and ephemera I collect.
My last project using Kaisercrafts products was this collage which started out by layering on scraps of Penny Royale papers, and building the collage from there. This piece is sealed by a gorgeous smelling layer of beeswax.
Storage and organisation tips from Pam:
- If you’re stuck for space, try vertical storage for storage your scrapbooking papers.
- If you’re sharing your space, keep things in a large storage cupboard with doors and drawers to keep everything hidden and tidy.
- For cheap storage head to your local $2 store or cheap store for cheap and easy storage ideas like clear boxes, stackable drawers etc.
We hope these tips help or inspire you to sort out your scrap space!

Thanks for sharing your scrap space Pam, love all the clear boxes
My DD & I are in awe, think its time to get organised!
Wow! Pam I love your scrap space! It looks so neat and well organised – and I think it’s pretty too
Thanks for sharing – I also love how you’ve done the labels on your photos – very clever.
Hey Pam, your storage ideas are terrific and I really love your collage layout!!!!! Don’t know where the untidy scrapper went to…It looks great
Thanks ladies-these photos were taken immediately after I had removed everything to repaint the room last month-so it was tidy-but already it’s in need of another tidy-but first I need to scrap..
Pam, love your space….very organised and neat! I understand the bit about cleaning up after every project ….. as I am a very messy scrapper, too! I am also a BIG fan of clear containers….
Love your scrap space Pam, it is so organized.
Hi Pam, Love your storage units and desk ideas, can I ask where you bought them and are they the ones you put together yourself? I need new ones and its hard to come across something with the right depth in the shelving. This is so organised. I love it
Love looking at your organization!! I was always afraid to do vertical storage on papers for fear they would curl or crumple… How do the mag. storage notebooks work? I have lots of stamps and punches and some are heavy which weights down plastic drawers. I also spend too much time ‘hunting’… suggestions??/

Hi Sue-the units came from a company here in the UK called MFI-unfortunately they no longer exist-I actually bought them BEFORE I started scrapping-as general storage, but they are perfect for scrap storage. Many scrappers like the expedit units from IKEA for storage-have you considered those?
Patti-I think papers would curl and bend stored vertically unless you have a pretty full box-which I do! The boxes I uses are 12″ wide and about 8″ high-an unusual size for magazine boxes. If I lived in Australia I would love some of the Kaisercraft MDF paper storage units, see here:

Ans I’m definitely going to get more of the plastic wallets that fit into ringbinders for my stamps. These are in a real state -thank goodness they’re in the cupboard away from view.

Hope that helps
Forgot to say-the desk is from IKEA-it’s the ROBIN computer desk and hutch
Ha! Funny – we have $1.00 stores & you’ve got $2.00 stores. LOVE the Ikea stuff & LOVE the way you labeled the photo – VERY clever!
Wow! Fantastic storage ideas! I really like to see things in an orderly manner. I think I can stay in this room forever. Check out your scrapbooking stuff and all. Seems like a haven to me.
