Classic good looks with Velvet Ensemble

Lesley, Trudi and Kerryn here to share our layouts using Velvet Ensemble.

Lesley:  ”With its gorgeous vintage feel this collection was perfect for these photos of my mum’s family. Looking at these photos and reading some of the family history made me feel very humble and blessed.

I wanted to make use of the film strips in the Opera patterned paper so I printed out photos small enough to be trimmed down to fit the bigger film strip. Every other photo I used foam tape to add some visual interest. The bigger strip actually started and ended with half a frame so I cut off the top half frame and added to the bottom so I could fit a whole photo on it. Talking of making things fit, the scallop edgings from the sticker sheet did not fit the full width of my paper so I worked out where the film strip was going to be placed on my page and strategically cut the scallop edgings so the gap would be underneath the film strip. The third film strip was from the bottom strip of the Interval paper. Along with the smaller photos I wanted to showcase a larger photo of my grandparents on their wedding day.

I coloured the flowers with colour mist so they resembled dried flowers. My alpha was not the right colour so I sanded it lightly, textured it and then coloured it with colour mist. This gives a distressed vintage look which I was after with this layout.

This layout required a lot of journaling so I made a small concertina album from a strip of the Stage Show paper. I cut two extra pieces of this paper. With one I textured it using a texture folder and adhered this to the front. The other piece I glued on to a piece of cardboard and cut out the middle to create a frame. I sanded the edges and then adhered this over top of the cover. I added the flowers and butterfly. Between the first page and the cover I put a circle to use as a tab to open the book. I printed the journaling onto vellum and then sewed these into the book. With the mannequin I coloured it using colour mist and decorated it with a doily. I put the ‘doily dress’ underneath as I liked the wooden details and I also thought it sort of represented those ‘skeletons’ in the closet we sometimes find when researching past generations! I attached the book to the layout.

To balance the layout on the right hand side it I ripped the paper and added the left over doily from the mannequin, a sticker from the sticker sheet and a butterfly.”

I have also used this range to make a layout about my son. I have used a used coffee bag to drip some coffee on the layout! I have also used distress ink on the alpha stickers and added rhinestones.

Trudi:  We live a considerable distance from the beach and don’t often get to the visit.  When we do go, my girls spend literally hours looking for sea shells and ‘constructing’ in the sand.

The rustic, natural tonings of the Velvet Ensemble collection were well suited for these photos which were captured during our last visit to the beach.

I hand cut a large floral element from the Matinee Patterned Paper which formed the basis of my layout design.  I added other hand cut elements from the same paper and layered these with pretty iceberg paper blooms and a large rhinestone flourish.

Kerryn : When I saw the gorgeous rich, strong colours of Velvet Ensemble I immediately thought of my husband’s Nana.  At 80+ (can’t reveal a ladies true age now can I ), although fiercely independent, she is still an integral part of our family.
