Kaisercraft Guest Designer: Vicki Boutin

Name: Vicki Boutin

A little bit about Vicki: Vicki Boutin’s love for creating started at a very young age.  It began with crayons and through the years has evolved to include anything from flower arrangement to mural painting.  It was with the birth of her first child that her true passion was discovered.  Once she picked up those scissors and her first sheet of cardstock, she was hooked!  A scrapbooker was born.

By combining her love for paper and products and photography Vicki has been able to create a fresh and approachable scrapping style.  In 2006, she was added to the Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame and was a member of the Creative Team for Better Homes and Gardens Scrapbooks, Etc from 2008-2009.  Her designs have been published in numerous industry magazines and idea books and Vicki loves to share her passion for scrapbooking through teaching and workshops. She is a Ranger Certified Instructor and she eagerly   tackles fun and fresh techniques which she then shares in her workshops!

With a love for life and laughter, Vicki enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends and in her spare time she can be found shopping or taking in a good movie.  She resides in St. Catharines, ON with her husband and two, sweet children.

Check out more of her amazing work at her blog.

So let’s see what Vicki came up with!!

“I love all of the new releases from Kaisercraft!  The color palettes are fresh and fun, the embellishments are numerous and the packaging is oh so clever.  When a box of product from Kaisercraft arrived at my door I couldn’t wait to see everything in ‘real life’.  After going through the new product two lines really jumped out at me, Loire Valley and Pina Colada.”

“The large floral pattern on the Japonica paper was perfect for cutting out and piecing on my “Cute Kid” layout.  The key to adding a little dimension to the black blossoms is to curl the edges of the petals and add a brad and layered circles to the centers.  I also gave the flowers a “spritz” of Glimmer Mist and added a little more to the background paper, too. The black rub ons add the perfect finishing layer.”

Kaiser--Summer-Time

“I have a ton of photos to scrap from the summer and the Pina Colada line is the ideal summer/vacation line.  As soon as I saw the large flamingo design on the black rub on set, I knew I had to color it in!  First, I layered the image on the Palm Beach polka dot paper and I colored it in with pencil crayons.  Once that step was completed, I misted the flamingo rub on with Glimmer mist and wiped it off.  The colored pencils resist the Glimmer Mist, creating a mottled effect on the background paper.”

Thanks for your amazing work Vicki!! We loved it!!

Supplies needed: Q1 Pennyroyale collection (6 patterned papers, alpha stickers, diecut elements, epoxy brads, colour rub ons), SB122 Hanging frames, Scissors, 12×12 trimmer, SB744 Mixed silver flower rhinestones, Kaisercraft glue, Exacto knife,Pop dots.

“I want to start first by saying I loved the fact that all the pieces work together. I had such a huge selection of matching items to choose from. This really allowed for me to think outside the box and beyond the page. I had some great pictures of my best friend Anne and myself taken a few months ago and wanted to create a hanging frame for her for Christmas. She and I have been like sisters for 13 years. So sis this is for you. Love ya…”

Step 1:

Cut out flowers from the Wendy paper. I used one small tan one, large cream one with 3 rounded parts of each petal, smaller pink and brown one with 3 rounded parts of petal, large pink one with same type petal. You will also cut out 2 more flowers med to small your choice.

Step 2:

Adhere the small frame to the backside of the Lillian paper, med frame to back of Jane, and lg frame to printed side of Evelyn. After they are dry using the exacto  knife and cut the frames back out. For the centers cut a X through the middle peel back all four corners like wrapping a present.

Step 3:

Small frame use a 1.5 inch square pic. Using the color rub ons choose the damask and place it on the top and bottom. These rub ons work great so it is very easy to get proper placement. Now for the other embellishments I loved the tags from the packaging and cut those to be my chipboard squares for the initials and the years. I than used the alpha stickers to add the writing.

Step 4:

Create a inside frame using the brown side of Evelyn 3×3 with a half inch border inside to create a 2×2 window. Add the scallop flower die cut element and a flower on top place large brad in the center. Adhere to the top right corner. On bottom left add the bracket journaling spot 2 flowers with small brad

Step 5:

Cut a 1 inch strip of the brown dots from tag sheet and also small stripe strip. Adhere both to the left edge about a inch from the edge. In the center add the 3 layers of flowers pop dot at least 2 of the layers and add a brad in the center of smallest flower. From the die cut sheet find the 2 phrases. The square scallop you will use in the center of the frame. Back the frame with the crème side of Anne than add phrase. Using the alphs stickers add the words going around the frame. Add small phrase in bottom right corner.

Attach with ribbon and you are done.

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and for more great classes and tips please visit me at my blog or my etsy store.

Have a Scrappy Day!! Michelle
