Memory Layout by Cathy McGrath

Hello everyone! It’s Cathy here on the blog today and I am going to share a layout that I have created using the Factory 42 Collection. This collection has so many wonderful elements to create with. I have used the papers to create a layout of my cousin’s twin boys. As you can see, the grungy feel of the papers works well with for boys of any age. As I look at different collections, I often hear myself saying ‘ooh I love this paper’ and end up with too many papers on my table and feeling overwhelmed with how to move forward in my design. Limit yourself to approximately 2-3 pages and you will be right to go!

Trim 1.3cm (1/2”) of IRONWORKS and then apply clear gesso. Ink and distress the edges. To save paper, cut the centre out of MACHINE, leaving a 5cm (2”) border around the edge. This paper can be used as mats and embellishments.

Mat your photo using left over MACHINE and dimensional foam tape. Distress and ink the edges for a grungy look. Use GEARS and COGS to create other mats and embellishments. Use a pencil to mark their placement on the background paper.

Use sprays to create extra interest to the background. Once dry, use an archival ink and stamp a texture stamp randomly around the page.

Use both the front and the reverse of the selected papers to complete the layout. Use parts and pieces of left over papers, dimensional foam to assist in the tucking in of embellishments. Even use flowers!

The title was created by die cutting one of the Decorative Dies word dies onto chipboard. It was altered simply by using one of Kaiser ink pads and inking the edges in a brown ink.

Adventure Ahead with Factory 42

August 14, 2017

Hi There,

It’s Renee Aslette here, for my first post as a Kaisercraft Design Team Member.  Excited is an understatement!

I was so excited to receive Factory 42 in my Design Team Happy Mail.  I was inspired by the masculine colours and all those grungy boy cogs and pipes.  So much so, that I decided for my first post to create a layout, featuring my eldest boy, Jackson.  This layout has loads of layers and dimension.  I knew instantly that I wanted to use the P2372 Machine (Reverse) piece of paper as my background.

It was then all about layering and using lots of Collectables, the Sticker Sheet and Stamps from the Factory 42 Collection.

Those cogs just look so real, and rusty.  I edged all of the layers with Black Ink and stamped the left and right side of the page with the Cog Stamp.

Some very cool quotes and sayings can be found in the Sticker Sheet from the collection.  I just love this quote, words to live by, especially for a 10 year old.

It was so much fun to find the right spot on the layout for the pipes.  And that pop of white was perfect for the layout.  Lots of adventure ahead.

There are so many possibilities with this collection.  It is ideal for boys, fathers, cards and tags.  I can see myself making loads of creations with this collection.

Thanks so much for stopping by! xxx

I am looking forward to sharing lots more with you soon.

Renee Aslette

Cogs Wall Art Medal hanger with Beck Beattie

August 4, 2017

Hi Everyone, Beck Beattie here!  I’m so excited to be sharing with you my first project as part of the Kaisercraft Design Team.  WOOT!

For my project today I wanted to create something a little different.  For so long I have adored all the fun wooden Wall Art designs Kaisercraft sell and when I saw the new ‘Cogs‘ one I just fell in love!  I also had a cool idea for it for something I have been wanting to make for my boys’ rooms.

My project today is a Medal holder, as for some time my boys have been finding different places to hang their medals they have acheived but often all on top of each other.   I wanted them to be able to celebrate the hard work they have put in to achieving those medals as they trained hard to get better at their sport and win them.  Having them featured in their room will be a great inspiration for them.  When I saw the large Cogs Wall Art, I knew it would be perfect and a bit of a different way to display them.

The new Factory 42 collection was the perfect match for this project giving it a fun and masculine egde to it working in perfectly with their rooms.

I started out by painting the large Cogs Wall art with brown paint.  I simply used a spray paint for this as it was super quick and gave a nice even coat.  I followed this up by adding some clear embossing ink along with metallic embossing powder in areas where I wanted to feature additional cogs.

I also added some stamping with black ink to the base using the cots stamps from the Mechanical Parts Die and Stamp set.  This really finished off my project.

I wanted to add some inspirational words onto the wall art and chose the words ‘BE YOUR BEST’.  For these words I adhered the Machine pattern paper onto some chipboard and die cut my letters out.  You could use any old chipboard letters you have or even wooden Kaiser ones in the medium size.  You can find them HERE.  Just adhere the paper onto it and then using a craft knife cut off the excess and file the edges for a clean finish.  I also added a little black ink to some of the edges of mine for a edgy look.

I teamed the large inspirational words with some out of the collectables pack.   I added a little cardboard behind the clock and word plate to give them a little extra strength and dimension.

Using the Mini Cogs and Mechanical Decorative Die sets I die cut a number of cogs from the Pipeworks paper.  I just flipped some over to have the different papers featured.  I then teamed them up with lots of cogs out of the Factory 42 Collectables pack layering and adhering as I went.

These Wall Art projects are so much fun!  Given I too have taken up running and achieved my first 10km medal on the weekend I think I might make another one of these for me with some of my favourite colours and some florals added in too for a feminine look!

I hope you enjoyed my project share today!  I would love to hear other ideas for the Cogs Wall Art in the comments.  I’m sure many of you creative souls out there have loads of ideas!

Till next time, happy creating!

Feminine Twist to Factory 42 with Jowilna Nolte.

August 3, 2017

On the blog today I am sharing a layout using the beautiful new Factory 42 range. The minute I saw this paper I knew that I wanted to use it.
What I didn’t know at the time was that a few weeks later the perfect photo would present itself. And so the twist came about.
I turned Factory 42 into something a little more feminine by adding a flower and a photo of myself.

The photo was taken on some train tracks in one of our beautiful mountain regions in Cape Town.
It captured the rustic elegance of the tracks that matched the paper colours perfectly. That turned out to be one of my main reasons for loving this range so much.

This range captures the spirit of something old with new possibilities. I love that.
I cut apart the Ironworks sheet (reverse) and used the iron panels to create texture by adding silver brads. A few clusters of
microbeads, buttons, metal washers and sewing completes the look.
In between all of that you can spot my tiny little blue gemstones for that added elegance and feminine touch.

A few additional cut out cogs and gears layered over the original print on the Assembly Line paper adds subtle dimension.
Machine sewing along the edge adds texture and picks up the light cream of the flower.

Some additional hand sewing alongside my machine sewing adds interest. I really like how both types of sewing adds texture and colour in their own special way.

Blue ink splats and a blue button was used as an accent colour, picking up the colour of my jeans beautifully.
The clocks used with the gears and cogs add to the theme of time and the repetition of circle elements.
I am convinced this range of gorgeousness will see loads of boy layouts too. But for now I am totally in love with the possibilities it offers for girls too.

I hope this inspires you to scrap a photo of yourself, but also to head off the tracks a little and get into another gear.
Until next time, Jowilna
