Butterfly Sampler Box with Mixed Media Effects by Jowilna Nolte

June 26, 2018

Hello everyone, Jowilna on the blog today with another Technique Tuesday showing you how I created this fun anthology butterfly sampler box.
This range is perfect for creating memory boxes, but I wanted to make something very specific – the kind of thing you will find in the office of a professor.

step 1 – Trim patterned paper to fit inside the wooden tray. I added a piece to the bottom to fit into the length.
Add stenciling detail to the bottom edge using texture paste and leave to dry. Add sewing around the edge.

step 2 – Cut a piece of polystyrene to fit into the bottom of the wooden tray and secure using double sided tape.

Step 3 – Use Kaisercraft mists in olive and coffee and mist the entire piece of paper.
Mix the two colours to create a leather look effect on the paper. Leave to dry or dry with a heat gun.

Step 4 – Add double sided tape to the back of the paper piece and then adhere it to the polystyrene inside the tray.

Step 5 – Cut out butterflies from patterned paper as well as foliage. Ink the edges to hide any cutting lines.

Step 6 – Adhere sticker sentiment to filmstrip sticker and trim to size. Use your scissors to distress the edges.

Step 7 – Adhere the butterflies as well as the foliage and sentiment. Layer two butterflies on top of each other using foam tape.

Step 8 – Use decorative pins to add some interest to the butterflies. Cut them shorter and then pin them through the butterflies.
Print fig. sentiments and adhere below each butterfly.

I love how the mists just add so much shimmer and warmth to the patterned paper and project.
So easy to create a butterfly sampler box perfect for the aspiring lepidopterist {a person who studies or collects moths and butterflies}

Until next time – why not try and make your own sampler box using this easy to re-create leather look using texture and inks. Then add some of your favourite images and sentiments
to create a fun home decor project for your office or studio.

The idea of a bookmark for me is that it is not too bulky – so although I need something pretty it has to be functional too.
I love how the design team can come up with the same basic idea, and yet totally different projects.

My bookmark is a plain triangle created out of patterned paper that slides over the corner of your book pages, as well as acts as
a great reminder to ‘always be grateful’.

Anthology Beyond the Page Kavitha Wooden Flourishes

Botanical theme altered boxes by Kavitha

June 18, 2018

Hello everyone,

Kavitha here today to share my new project using “Anthology ” collection

This collection gives such a warm feel with natural color tones and elements that inspired me to make a botanical/nature themed

altered boxes.

I mainly used fussy cut elements from the “Ephemera” and “Entomology” papers to create the elements for my boxes.

I have also used some miniature garden theme accessories like bird house, watering can etc.

Few pieces from collectables and Flourishes added the perfect finishing touch to my boxes.

I tried to give a ornate/vintage feel to the boxes using few clay embellishments

Other:  Clay embellishments, Miniatures , Acrylic paints

I love making miniatures projects, adding tiny details is so much fun (and painful too ;)).Hope

you enjoyed my project,do let me know your views :)

Thank you for stopping by.

Anthology Card Making Full Bloom Layering

Tips for Layering

June 13, 2018

Layering is an effective and popular way of adding dimension to a project.  Today the Design Team have come up with some Tips for Layering that might be helpful to you when adding layers to your creations.

Summer card by Tatiana Yemelyanenko

For adding volume to my project I used collectables, fussy cut images and stamped embellishments. I also added sisal to make the composition lighter and airy.

“Bloom” Layout by Rikki Graziani

When fussy cutting dont be afraid to layer in shapes, like I have done here in circles with everything coming out from that!!

Love Always Layout by Jowilna Nolte

Layer with a purpose.
For this layout I added layered clusters of flowers just below my photograph to ground the photo.
The layering gives the photo somewhere to sit and also frames the image beautifully.

You can also layer ink colours like I did, using two different shades of pink for interest.

Layer stamping on top of inked backgrounds to add interest.
So there are several ways to add layering to your layouts and cards – but always have a purpose for what you are doing.

“Full Bloom Mini Pages”~ by Kylie Kingham

A helpful layering tip I have always worked with is not being afraid to cut stickers or collectables in half to layer behind or underneath focal points and to build depth. By doing so you are able to get more from your supplies and make them go further.

“You are so lovely “~ by Kavitha

Arranging the layers in slightly angled way gives lots of dimension to your work.Add the embellishments/die cuts in different levels to give more depth to your composition, you can also use foam tape for the top most layer.

Think of your Layout in Levels:

Level 1 – Paper Background

To add layers to this level you could use stamping, templates, inking, water colours, texture paste

Level 2 – Paper Layers

To add layers to this level you could use fussy cutting, strips of paper, cheesecloth, sewing thread, mounting tape, folding paper leaves

Level 3 – Embellishments

To add layers to this level you could add in Collectables, Wooden Flourishes, Rhinestones, Pearls, Misting Spray.
