Five Tips for Layering Paper with Process Video

July 3, 2017

Do you like layering paper in Layouts but sometimes are not sure where to begin?

Are you interested in some Paper Layering Tips for Scrapbooking?

Today I am demonstrating five tips for Layering paper in a Layout and I am using the sunny and gorgeous Golden Grove Collection.  I have made a Layout with a photo of my Mum and Dad on their Wedding Day.

Lets get started!

Layering Paper Tip 1 – Plan the Outline of Your Design

Five Tips for Layering Paper ~ Kaisercraft Golden Grove Layout by Alicia McNamara

For this Layout I chose to make a cross Design behind my photo.  I use the cross design quite a bit because I find it easy to work with.  I drew the cross onto a scrap bit of 12×12 paper to show you what I was thinking in my head.  If you have a basic outline you can shape your layers to work with that outline.  So at the end of the layering part you have something that looks balanced and planned.  Then I chose a background paper, P2354 Collated, because I wanted something quite plain to work with.

I chose the Cherry Blossom Template IT001 to use with Gold Paint and Impasto and I wanted this to pop out from under my layered paper design.  I love this template.  The little blossoms are so pretty.

Layering Paper Tip 2 – Choose Papers with Colours that Work Together

I chose three papers P2335 Canola, P2356 Fallen Leaves and P2358 Sweet Pear to use as my layers and cut them into strips of various sizes. I wanted to focus more on the golden colours from this collection, with just a hint of green, to suit my photograph.  Then I positioned them into a cross pattern and inked them with Saffron Ink.

Layering Paper Tip 3 – Use a Mixture of Mounting Tape and Flat Tape

Once I was happy with the positioning of the paper strips I stuck them down with mounting tape and flat tape.  By using the different type of tapes you can make layers of different depths.

Layering Paper Tip 4 – Fussy Cut some Layers

The papers in this collection are perfect for some fussy cutting and fussy cutting is a great way to layer paper.  I chose the paper P2352 Gold Dahlia to cut two clusters of paper blooms.

Layering Paper Tip 5 – Use Collectables

Collectables are perfect for adding paper layers to your design…sometimes I wish I had five bags of these because I absolutely LOVE collectables.  They make creating such a breeze.  The collectables in this collection are just adorable!  So many beautiful flowers and butterflies.

How to Create a Multi-Layered Card

June 23, 2017

Hello Crafty Friends,

When I saw the new and beautiful Keepsake Collection I thought it would be perfect for making a heavily embellished card.  I decided to film a Process Video to match because I often get questions about how to begin a card that has lots of layers and embellishments, what colours and papers can be chosen to put together and what elements can be used.  Today I will show you exactly how I made this one from start to finish.

To make the card I began with some folded craft card stock measuring 23 x 17cm.  I cut some Photomontage (16.5 x 11cm) to fit the front of the card and a strip of Photomontage (reverse) measuring 5.5 x 16.5 cm.  I inked everything with Bark ink.  I layered the strip onto the card with mounting tape for extra dimension and this was the base of my card.  I chose the Photomontage Paper because I liked the shade of green and I liked the small white floral clusters.

I stamped onto the Photo Frames Acetate 12×12 sheet for the sentiment of my card, because I love the novelty of this Acetate sheet and I wanted to play with it again.  I used Stazon Ink to stamp onto the Acetate and it dried clearly without smudging.   I backed this sentiment with Captured paper, I chose this because I felt it was a slightly different colour to the other papers on the card, but still coordinated.  The thing with the Kaisercraft collections is that the colours are so well chosen you really can’t go wrong with your paper choice.  Everything matches really nicely so you can be confident with your paper choice.  I added sticker strips for extra details and chose a lovely flower cluster sticker for my main embellishment.  I wanted something large and floral.  This sticker was perfect.

I used my one of my most favourite Kaisercraft Decorative Dies ever DD757 Large Flourishes .  If you haven’t purchased this Decorative Die yet you need to! It goes so well with Paper Blooms and most Kaisercraft Paper Collections.  I find it adds a little dimension and another layer to a Multi-Layered card.  I actually like to cut this die in half and pop it under some Paper Blooms.  The colour of the flowers I chose was Dusty Pink, another favourite of mine.  They co-ordinate nicely with lots of the Kaisercraft Paper Collections as well, so a very good colour to have in your craft supplies.

I chose some lovely Collectables to add to my card (leaves and butterflies are always good!) and layered everything together.  You see how I repositioned all the elements on the card until I was happy with it in the Process Video.

I love adding the little wooden shapes from the Kaisercraft Flourish Packs.  For this card I chose two photo frame corners from the Snapshot Pack.  Thes add another dimension to the card that is different from paper.  You can ink or colour these wooden flourishes, but for this card I chose to leave them in their original state.

Finally I embellished with some Chocolate Pearls.  This finishes the card off and again gives another texture to the card.  They can be added in groups of three or two, or whatever grouping you prefer.

Alicia McNamara Beyond the Page Home Decor Indigo Skies

Kaisercraft Indigo Skies Beyond the Page and Video

April 21, 2017

Hello Kaisercraft Friends,

I know you are all loving the new Kaisercraft Indigo Skies Collection, it is such a versatile collection that can be used to scrap the boys or the girls.  Today I am sharing a Photo Frame with photos of my nieces and nephew from a photo shoot they had taken a few years ago now.  This is a present for my sister for her birthday.  Because she has three children these photos were a perfect fit for the Three Panel Frame.

Kaisercraft Indigo Skies Photo Frame by Alicia McNamara

I started with a Beyond The Page 3 Piece Panel Frame by Kaisercraft and the beautiful Indigo Skies Collection.

I filmed a Process Video of how I made this frame.

I used one of Kaisercraft’s new 6×6 Templates – Abstract Triangles to add some texture to the frame.

I also added some background stamping with my all time favourite stamp CS257 Background Script.

You can see in the video how I just ink up little bits of this stamp for the effect of a few words stamped here and there on the frame.

I tied the frame together with some Kaisercraft blue Organza Ribbon.

I fussy-cut some of the beautiful butterflies to decorate the frame.  I love butterflies as an embellishment.  I popped a little Kaisercraft Decorative Die vine (DD516) underneath the butterflies to fill in the gaps.

I added a little bit of navy sewing thread and a couple Kaisercraft white Mini Paper Blooms.
