”Be Bold”‘ Art Journal Page Tutorial by Rikki Graziani

November 22, 2018

Good morning,

Rikki here today showing you some techniques on creating an Art Journal page

using this month’s stunning Scrap Studio Collection, with some  help from the NEW Kaiser Mist and Kaiser Inks.

PAPERS: SCRAP STUDIO Collection: PS543 Album Die Cut, PP1055 Paper Pad.

KC PRODUCTS: CT948 Collectables, IP753 Licorice Ink Pad, IP746 Peacock Ink Pad,

KM121 Kaiser Mist – White, KM130 Kaiser Mist – Brown,

KM129 Kaiser Mist – Navy, KM127 Kaiser Mist – Turquoise, KM Kaiser Mist – Yellow,

KM125 Kaiser Mist – Candy, IT040 Mini Designer Template – Stripes,

IT010 Mini Designer Templates – Splatter,

IT447 6×6 Designer Template – Birch.

I have used white paper here to make it easier to see the steps,  but the completed project is an ALBUM DIE CUT…….

Step 1:

Pick a selection of patterns from the paper pad and cut then into varying strips and widths.

Then with some, glue stick them in the corners of the page overlaying colours and sizes.

Its more about the texture to catch the mist later on.

Step 2:

With the NEW Kaiser ink use an applicator or even a make up sponge through 6×6 Designer Template – Birch.

Apply randomly over the page. Repeat this step with the Mini Designer Template – Splatters.

Step 3:

Using the NEW Kaiser Ink – Peacock and Mini Designer Template – Stripes, ink with an applicator/ make up sponge

over the top and bottom of the sides of the collage pieces.

Step 4:

Now this is where the messy fun begins!   Remember –  water is your friend and always have some paper towel on hand.

It’s not as intimating as it looks, the first step is to put some water on the inked places,

await a minute to activate with the water,  pick up your page, move it around a little to get it where it needs to go.

Give the NEW Kaiser Mist a little shake, there is a little metal ball in the bottom to help shake up the mica powders in this mist which  gives the mist a light metallic look – don’t be afraid  – they are not too heavy in the mica,  they will look great even on masculine cards.

Unscrew the top, grab a paint brush and now drop the colour on the parts that are wet,

pick up the page and move the mist where you want it to go.

For this step I used Kaiser Mist – Navy.

Step 5:

Handy Tip **** allow your colours to dry in between each colour.

You can use a heat gun for this or pop it out in the sun or just let it dry naturally. But by allowing each colour to dry, it  will help the muddy colours that sometimes happen when we place colours together that don’t belong together.

Repeat the above step with Kaiser Mist – Turquoise.

Remember your water, place it where you want the colours to go its all about control.

Step 6:

Moving onto something a little bolder in colour Kaiser Mist – Candy.

I have deliberately popped this colour in the middle of the navy and turquoise,

my reason is a simple one and it has to  do with the colour wheel…. the red colour will make  another colour when it hits the blue tones

giving  a deep purple colour.

Remember to add water…..

Step 7:

Now this is an interesting step and I have to say it was one of those” I hope it works” moments, especially using the NEW Kaiser Mist – Yellow.

The technique is a more of a drop one and you don’t add water to this step!!!!

Grab your paint brush and  load it until it is full,  let droplets of the amazing yellow drop onto the page.

This will allow minimal colour mixing and will stop colours turning “muddy”.

Handy Tip *** Have you ever had trouble flicking your mist?

Does it go everywhere but on your page?

Grab another paint brush and tap them togethe,  like tapping sticks –

this gives you a bigger surface area to hit  and will get closer to your work

and will give you a little bit more control.

This is the main part of the page background created.  Download the PDF to see what I used to finish off the page.

Also the final steps are important to finish off your page and tying your layers together.

Use NEW Kaiser Mist – Brown and White and flick over your page starting in the bottom corner and moving up to the top corner (diagonally).

Just remember to dry your page in between the colours.

Till next time, have a creative day

Adventure Awaits – Spinner Card and Tutorial By Rikki Graziani

PAPERS: LET’GO Collection: PP1056 Paper Pad.

KC PRODUCTS: CT949 Collectables, FL637 Flourish Pack Fly Away, EF295 Flight Path Embossing Folder, CD601 Premium Cardstock – white,

CD511 Card Pk C6 – white, T302 Foam Dots, T321 Acid Free Craft Glue, LDB1056 Foam Tape, T314 Double Sided Tape.

OTHER: Twine

Step 1:

Use two different size circle dies and use washi to keep in position when running it through the DIY Die Cut Machine…..

Step 2:

When you place the Foam Tape to lift the card for the spinner, keep it clear from the center circle so your spinner doesn’t get stuck to it.

Handy Tip ***: if you are worried about the spinner sticking use a little flour and dust the inside of the foam mount.

Step 3:

To make the spinner – use some smooth cardstock – I used some packaging from the Foam Dots and use two small foam dots, stick them together and its done.

Step 4:

Add your center circle to your background and double check your spinner doesnt stick.

Or if your not feeling too confident about adding your spinner device in after your stick the center circle add your spinner in first, then stick the center circle last.

Now to finish off the card its really up to you… check out the PDF file to see what Collectables I used in detail.

After I used my lovely DIYcuts Machine, I used white gel pen to highlight the details.

Go ahead and try this simple technique, it’s so much fun!
