Anthology Layouts Mabel Sim Mixed Media

The Best Moments Layout by Mabel Sim

June 4, 2018

Hi Everyone!

It’s Mabel here and I am popping by to share with you a layout I did using the new Kaisercraft collection, Anthology.

I would say Anthology is a collection suitable for masculine projects due to its rich and dark colours. This is a good collection to get if you are intending to craft something masculine.

Nonetheless, if you take a look at my layout, I would not call it masculine but it is definitely not feminine either. This collection gives a good balance between both and i love it!

Kaisercraft Products: Anthology Collection – P2541 Ephermera | P2544 Botanist | P2545 Apothecary | SS364 Sticker Sheet | CT938 Collectables | IT468 6×6″ Designer Template Grunge | T303 Foam Tape | T314 Double Sided Tape

Others: Cardboard | Brown Pigment Powder | Texture Paste | Palette Knife | Black String

That’s all for my posts today.

Magical Day by Mabel Sim

May 1, 2018

Hi Everyone!

It’s Mabel here and I am popping by to share with you a quick 6.5 x 6.5 inches layout I made using the paper pad of the very same size inspired by Kaisercraft’s new collection Stargazer.

If you realised, I love to layer papers at different angles to create focal point as well as pattern attract the attention of viewers. Hence, I had picked 3 different papers from the same collection with same colour coordination but of different blue tones to create some contrast.

Did I actually mentioned before that pre-cut collectables are by absolute favourite and a must in my projects? The gorgeous pieces are so precise that it saves me so much time on fussy cutting.

I had also added bits and pieces of cheese cloth at random areas to add on some interest.

Handmade rolled up flowers will suit any occasion and any projects.

Stamping act as a filler for empty spaces such that your layout does not look ’empty’ as it had added details to your layout. Simple technique but yet so useful.

Kaisercraft Products: Stargazer Collection – PP1044 Paper Pad 6.5 x 6.5″| P2539 Astronomy | CT937 Collectables | CS327 Clear Stamps | IP719 InkPad Black | SB794 Pearl Snow | SB777 Rhinestones Black | F647 Iceberg Mini Paper Blooms | T303 Foam Tape | T314 Double Sided Tape

Others: Cardboard | Cheese cloth

Layouts Mabel Sim Mixed Media

Just Because Smile Vintage Frame Layout by Mabel Sim

April 10, 2018

Hi Everyone!

It’s Mabel here and I am back to share with you a tutorial on a layout I made, inspired by the new Pen & Ink collection.

As I have the intention to layer 2 specialty paper ROUND FRAME together, hence I had trimmed out the inner circle to form a legit frame for pop up.

As seen here, I had glued cardboard pieces onto the back of the frame for dimensional effect.

Typically, when I am adding dimensional effect on large surfaces, I would use cardboard pieces instead of dimensional adhesives as it is more cost-effective. Just a small tip for you. :)

I also tried to made my own flower embellishments. Hence I had cut out a circle. Note that your circle need not be perfect, as the imperfect circumference will add character to your rolled-up flowers.

Next step to take will be to cut swirls for rolling. Note that the width of each swirl will determine the height and compactness of your flower.

A great tool to have will be to use your tweezer and roll the swirls from outside in and then place a good dollop of glue at the centre of the swirl as it will act as the base for the flower.

Check out the few I made!

Moving on to my background, I had used my makeup sponge with inks from inkpad and press it down over the stencil to create some additional interest to the background.

I had chosen to use 2 different tones of browns for variation.

Once my background is done, I proceed to mount on my round frame on top.

Proceed to form your layering and clusters. I had torn off papers for the rugged look as well as to build my clusters even on top of my frame. Dimension is a key to make your layout looks nice and professional.

Moving on to finishing touch, I am stuffing black sewing tread under various spots.

As well as to splatter diluted black gesso onto the background.

Voila! My layout is completed. Here are some close up shot~

Kaisercraft Products: Pen & Ink Collection – PS522 Round Frame | P2505 Ephemera | P2509 Journaled | PP1041 Paper Pad | CT934 Collectables | IT464 6×6 Designer Template Collage | F659 Mini Paper Blooms Misty | IP723 InkPad Vintage | IP724 InkPad Bark | T303 Foam Tape | T314 Double Sided Tape | T319 Cutting Mat

Others: Cardboard | Black tread | Black Gesso | Brush

Fairy Garden Layouts Mabel Sim

Fairy Garden Shaker Layout by Mabel Sim

March 12, 2018

Hi Everyone!

It’s Mabel here again to share with you a layout that I did with a little interactive element. A shaker layout! Instead of creating a usual shaker card, I had incorporated the element into a layout.

I was inspired by Kaisercraft’s new collection ‘Fairy Garden’.

The piece ‘Fantasy’ (P2488) was particularly suitable for this project. I had fussy cut out the blank space in the loop and glue on a sheet of acetate on the flipped side of the page in preparation of making a shaker layout.

I had mount the piece on foam tape or cardboard to create room for sequins to move about and then I poured assorted sequins into the pocket created with the foam tape/ cardboard and seal the base. The base I had chosen is ‘Fairy Land’ (P2492).

Now that the shaker component is completed, I had glued on my sentiment from the sticker sheet as well as layering some pieces from the collectables for more interest. By fussy cutting out more flowers and fairies of assorted sheets of the same collection, I am able to add dimensions to my project.

Kaisercraft Products: Fairy Garden Collection – P2487 Fairy Dance | P2488 Fantasy | P2492 Fairy Land | SS358 Sticker Sheet | CT 932 Collectables | T303 Foam Tape | T314 Double Sided Tape

Others: Sequins | Dewdrops | Cardboard

Altered Canvas Beach Shack Mabel Sim Mixed Media

Curious Shall have Adventures Canvas by Mabel Sim

February 22, 2018

Hi Everyone!

It’s Mabel here again to share with you a little mixed media canvas piece I did with Kaisercraft new collection ‘Beach Shack’.

I had used texture paste over Kaisercraft 6×6 Stencil ‘IT460’. It was meant to be mimicking wave ripples, but I had made it seemed like its seaweed instead with the layers of colours I had piled on top. I guess its a creative way to extend the use of the products you own?

I was going for a distressed look, hence I had a makeup sponge ready to sponge on the blues and browns from Kaisercraft inkpads. I had even watered it down to use it as watercolour.

To say that the ephemera I used from this collection is useful will be a major understatement. It had made crafting so much easier and faster as no fussy-cutting is required. Hence, BIG LOVE to these die-cuts.

I also added bits and pieces of cheese cloth that was pulled loose to add additional interest to the canvas piece. It does looks like fishing net doesn’t it?

I had stamped and embossed using the stamp in this collection to create my centrepiece. I particularly like this saying as I always believe that curiosity is the deciding factor to push someone further in exploration.

Kaisercraft Products: Beach Shack: P2469 Sea Change | IT460 6×6 Designer Template Ripples | CS320 Clear Stamp – Beach Shack | CT930 Collectables | IP727 Inkpad Lagoon | IP723 Inkpad Vintage | IP733 Inkpad Green | IP724 Inkpad Bark | KM106 KaiserMist Denim| CS214 Acrylic Stamping Block | T303 Foam Tape | T314 Double Sided Tape

Others: Canvas | White Texture Paste | Cheese Cloth | Embossing Powder | Heat Tool | Makeup Sponge | Brushes | Palette Knife
