Hello Again!

Trudi, Lesley and Kerryn here and today we are in the kitchen with the delightful Nan’s Favourites Collection.

Trudi : I had a touch of nostalgia when I first saw this collection.  It did remind me so much of my late Nan – especially the lemons.  No she wasn’t sour by any means (LOL) but she had this huge lemon tree in the back yard and when the lemons were ripe she was always making lemonade, lemon slice and lemon butter.  My Nan was a terrific cook and whenever you visited she always seemed to be in the kitchen.  Without a doubt, she always wore an apron or a piny as she referred to them as.  My Nan was also a dressmaker so they were of course hand made.  Always made with a little ruffle, gathered at the waist and a big pocket on the front.

So today I have gone back into the kitchen and I figure that if I am going to cook up a storm, I might need one of these – an apron!

For me,  Nan’s Favourites and Aprons went hand in hand, though this one is in the form of a decoration rather than practicability.

During my Internet travels a while back, I recall  seeing a card that had an apron die cut attached to the front of it.  I adapted this idea and made a template in the shape of an apron.

The base of the apron has been cut from the Apple Pie P611 patterned paper.

I have created faux pockets from Marmalade and again Apple Pie.  My Nan used to carry a handkerchief in hers, but for this one, I found the wooden kitchen utensils and spoon were a perfect accompaniment to sit inside the smaller pocket.  To dress it up – a  little bit of paper pleating to represent some faux lace around the arm holes.

I  found  the new Kaisercraft Layout Stand a perfect support for my apron to sit on.  The Layout Stand has also been altered with Nan’s Favourites patterned paper ‘Cookie Dough’.

Lesley here: The recipe cards are absolutely fabulous and I decided to create a Recipe Mini Album for my daughter. She loves cooking, eating cooking and decorating cooking!   I thought I could put together her favourite recipes on the cards and then laminate them to make them more robust for the kitchen. Cooking often ends up slightly messy in our household! The layout stand is also perfect to hold her little collection of recipes. I covered this in paptterned paper and then used a glaze paste over top to seal the paper so it can be easily wiped if necessary. Because I wanted to laminate the recipe cards I had to keep the cards flat so to add embellishments I used the clear stamps and stamped them with versamark and then brushed on perfect pearls.

Kerryn : We have had an empty shelf in our kitchen for some time so I decided that with the help of the Nans Favourites collection I would create something to fill that empty space.

From a couple of different angles.

I didn’t overcomplicate the project because I wanted the focus to remain on the kitchen theme of the piece.  I teamed the fun Nans Favourites embellishments with twine and 2 different colours of paper blooms.  I added a bit of stitching and distressing too, just because I wanted to .

It is now sitting pretty on my (no longer empty) shelf.

Trudi : This collection has just the right amount of sweetness for my liking and it reminds me of  happy days gone by.

To create the stamped rose blooms,  I have revisited the English Rose Clear Stamps. The rose image  has been stamped numerous times on the reverse sides of Nan’s Favourites patterned papers Shortbread P610 and Cherry Tart P612.  The images were then cut out and then arranged and layered under and around the photo.  To add a little dimension, attach some of the images with foam dots or tape.

I created my hand cut ‘sweetness’ title with the help of my computer and an enlarged font.  I printed it onto cardstock and then cut it out.  To add some shine, Dimensional Magic was applied to the letters.  The title has been combined with mini alpha stickers and the sentiment is one from the new ‘Inner Self’ rub-ons.

Kerryn : The Nans Favourites collection was just the recipe I needed for photos I had taken of my children while they were decorating my daughters 5th birthday cake.  The photos aren’t the greatest but I love that it captures them working together.

Did you know that each Kaisercraft collection comes with a fantastic set of stamps?  I must admit I don’t use them nearly enough but for this layout it was just what I was after.  I have made my own patterned paper by stamping the cherries repeatedly on the reverse side of the Marmalade paper (P613).  By using a similar coloured ink to the paper I have added depth to the paper without it taking over.  I wanted it to enhance the page not become the focal point.

The mini alphas are perfect when it comes to adding journalling to your layout.  If you have alot of journalling it can take a little bit of time, but it is worth it.  I have added rows of stitching for extra definition.

Lesley here: Nan’s Favourites is a fabulous collection. I love the muted colours and all those awesome graphics and sayings. I created a simple but effective layout using just the Journal Tags, Printed Chipboard and Die Cut Elements. I have used the Journal Tags as my patterned paper to create a background for my photo. I printed my journaling onto transparency as I wanted the background to show through. I adhered the transparency using white paint which also highlights the key part of my journaling. I punched a hole in the chipboard elements and hung them with string around the tab. I used staples to adhere certain elements to my layout as well.

Part 2) Along with this, please post a selection of at least 8 Kaisercraft projects (from the project list below) that you have created on a dedicated blog post OR blog page of your own blog (you must have your own blog to audition).  This blog post must contain ALL your 8 entries, please do not send links to 8 seperate blog posts.

Kaisercraft’s product range is diverse; not only do Kaisercraft produce outstanding scrapbooking consumable products, but also unique MDF Wooden albums, home decor and off-the-page projects.

We need Design Team members that can complete high quality scrapbooking layouts, cards and Beyond-the-Page projects to show off our paper collections, embellishments and MDF Beyond-the-Page products.

As our team creates content for the Kaisercraft blog to inspire and teach other crafters around the world you must have sound photography skills, an ability to create step-by-step instructions and tutorials, along with material lists.

This call is open to international and domestic applicants.

Trudi, Lesley and Kerryn here with with our layout shares using the gorgeous new Bubblegum Hills Collection.  We were inspired to create layouts that evoked joy and happiness.

Trudi: “I have to say that the Bubblegum Hills Collection is so much fun.  The colours are  bright and happy, you cannot help but smile.   They were perfect to match the happy delight of my littlest girl.

I was also inspired by the ‘Life’s lessons cannot be learned until you learn to live life’ sentiment from the ‘Berry Surprise’ patterned paper and wanted to make this a focal point of the layout along with the photo.  The new ‘Life Rub-On’ sentiments worked really with this and I have added one for a journalling prompt.

Layered chipboard elements and floral elements cut from the ‘Calipso Punch’ patterned paper have been arranged around the photo and the sentiment.  Coloured rub -ons and a little ‘Bubblegum ‘Flutterby’ magic finishes it off.”

Lesley here: I love the colours of Bubblegum Hills collection. This whole collection is just so vibrant and fun. It was perfect for this photo of my daughter and the ‘Pink’ quote from the Girls Rub Ons. This layout is a bit of graphic meets shabby with regards to style. Just to add to the attitude! I used the outer part of the speciality paper by tearing out the middle and then tore other parts of the layout for visual effect. Strategically placed rub ons add to the design as well as providing the ‘journalling’ for the layout.

Kerryn : The bright and happy colours from the Bubblegum Hills papers and embellishments worked perfectly with photos of my daughter wearing one of her favourite dresses.  Although she is happy to be mucking in the dirt with the best of them, she does love her dresses.

MARCH SKETCH CHALLENGE #4

This week we decided to take a different approach to the Saturday Sketch – a card!!

This week’s sketch was created from one of Kaisercraft’s graphic designers, Jess Milinkovic’s cards!

And our Design Team have also had a go!

“Sketches are so easy to adapt.  Rather than creating a horizontal card, I have created a vertical card to work with my embellishments.  The sketch still clearly inspired the card, but it was so easy to adapt it to suit what I needed”.
