Never miss a moment with Kaisercraft’s 2011 Diary

A couple of years ago I attempted to keep a daily diary for a year.  I got so far and then gave up.  Looking back, I think I made it too complicated and time consuming.  When I opened the new Kaisercraft diary though I was inspired to have another go.  This time I am going to keep it super simple.  A few notes.  Maybe the odd photo too.  The idea being that when I need prompts for scrapbooking pages I can easily remember those big and not so big moments from the year.

The diary is going to be sitting on my desk so I wanted to work with similar tones to those that I used on my bill holder.  I concentrated on the blue and sandy yellow colours from the Seaside Collection.

I planned on incorporating a photo on the cover from the beginning, but I didn’t want to restrict myself to just the one photo.  I am going to be looking at the diary for a whole year after all ;) .  I cut a frame with my diecutting machine which I then embossed and inked.  I used pop dots to adhere the frame to my cover.  They don’t need to be too thick, just thick enough to be able to slide a photo in and out.  Just remember to only use your pop dots on the side and the bottom though ;)

I didn’t want to make the cover too chunky but I wanted to make sure it still had plenty of texture and interest.  I used glimmermist, embossing and ink to add some textural elements.

I cut some flowers from the Sea Breeze paper and bent the petals inwards to add interest.  I have incorporated plenty of layers without the cover feeling too busy.

I am all set now.  In 2011 I will make sure that I never miss a moment.

Cards for girls and boys

Camilla here today with some cards using The English Rose collection. And at first sight you may think it’s most suitable for girls’ layouts and cards. But I have used the 6″ Paper Pad to make almost identical cards, one for a girl and one for a boy.

First a girl card using a lot of pink.

Card “Grattis” (pink) – Camilla Ekman: English Rose Paper Pad (PP835); Grosgrain Ribbon – Little Girls (RI602); Pearl Brads – Pink Ice (EM932)

Other: lace, flower, leaves, chipboard alpha

And then a boy card using green and a bit blue.

Card “Grattis” (blue) – Camilla Ekman: English Rose Paper Pad (PP835); Grosgrain Ribbon – Ocean (RI609); Pearl Brads – Soft Blue (EM933)

Other: lace, flower, leaves, chipboard alpha

Saturday Sketch – December #3

Join in our sketch fun and you can win prizes!

Simply create a layout based on any of this month’s December ketches and share your creations into our December sketch gallery to win!!

First let’s have a look at what the sketch was based on:

Layout by Alison Wood: Seaside Paper collection, Black Rubons, Printed Ticket and Canvas Tag embellishment Pack, Cream Alpha Stickers.

Let’s have a closer look at Monika’s layout:

I customized the sketch a bit to make it work for my size (A4), but I tried to keep the bigger elements as they were. I´m not a sketch person so this is often what happens when I use one – the layout turns out quite a bit different from intended.

I used the same method to make the title as Karen described here a while back, I colored the chipboard letters with two different shades of blue ink and painted them with dimensional magic. As they were drying I thought I´d try to sprinkle a little bit of glitter on them here an there to get a water drop effect.

Items used: Umbrella P591, Summer Days – Die Cut with gloss PS128, Coast Line P595, Sea Breeze P594, Paper pad, PP834, Canvas Tags EM942, Inkpads IP717 Jade and IP7116 Antique Blue.Other: Flowers.

And Kerryn’s:

At the end of December (31st December AEST) we will be selecting a first place and second place winner from the December Sketch Gallery.
