Sunday Scrap Space

Sunday Scrap space

This week we’re visiting Design Team Member, Pam Thorburn’s multi-functional ‘scrap space’

Pam Thornburn profile pictureBW

Name: Pam Thorburn

Hometown: Edinburgh

Occupation: Advisory  teacher for children with Autism

I can’t live without….Earl Grey Tea

My favourite dessert is… anything with chocolate and cream

My inspiration is found here…..Flickr- and you tube.

On my playlist… I don’t have one-I love silence! But that doesn’t happen often and I am forced to listen to my teenagers palylists!!

On my desk… my sewing machine lives on my desk.

What I love the most about Kaisercraft is…that it’s a one stop shop for everything you need for scrapbooking.

And now to have a ‘sticky beak’ at Pam’s scrap space…

“I don’t have my own scrap room. I scrap in my kitchen/family room, spreading out on the dining table and kitchen island unit. I am an exceptionally messy scrapper and can have stash strewn from one end of the room to the other when I am making a layout. However, because this is a public room I have to keep it pretty organised and tidy, so I tidy away after each layout. I actually enjoy scrapping in the kitchen because it means I can multi task. I can add a bit of glossy accents in between cooking the veggies! Glossy accents added to the layout that is, not the veggies! “

All my stash is stored in two units and a desk along one wall of the sitting area. My storage is practical rather than pretty-a bit like me! I mainly use clear plastic boxes so I can see the contents without the need for labels. I like having doors and drawers so I can just shove things away and have the place looking respectable –until you look in!

My favourite storage items are the 12×12 plastic boxes. I store each Kaisercraft collection in its own box, plus I use them to make up LO kits to take to crops. I want to get more to store stamps and inks as well. These boxes stack well and it’s easy to pull out one from the middle or bottom of a stack.

Pam2

I store flowers loosely grouped by colour; warm, cool and neutrals. Ribbons are stored in small plastic boxes sorted by colour also. Papers are stored vertically in magazine holders. I prefer vertical storage because it takes up less space-and I enjoy flicking through the papers.

Pam3

As well as scrapping I like to do mixed media/collage art pieces and a fair bit of my space is taken up with art materials and ephemera I collect.

My last project using Kaisercrafts products was this collage which started out by layering on scraps of Penny Royale papers, and building the collage from there. This piece is sealed by a gorgeous smelling layer of beeswax.

Storage and organisation tips from Pam:

- If you’re stuck for space, try vertical storage for storage your scrapbooking papers.

- If you’re sharing your space, keep things in a large storage cupboard with doors and drawers to keep everything hidden and tidy.

- For cheap storage head to your local $2 store or cheap store for cheap and easy storage ideas like clear boxes, stackable drawers etc.

We hope these tips help or inspire you to sort out your scrap space!

Saturday Sketches

Feeling a little ‘sketchy’??

Well today is the day you should be feeling sketchy! Scrapbook sketchy that is!

This week our Design Team has been scrapping up a storm – each coming up with different interpretations of the sketch.

How funky is Pam’s layout below? She’s turned the layout 90 debgrees anti-clockwise and used funky arrows instead of journal blocks! The k-bots paper collection is the perfect addition to her boy themed layout! Here Pam has teamed it up with some funky blue fozz felt to create a bright and bold layout!

Saturday Sketch 9Next up is Tanya’s bright and bold layout…

Q1-9 Tanya Tahir

And Nikki’s gorgeous layout of her and her brother. The Loire Valley collection is perfect for family photos! Here Nikki has turned the layout 90degrees clockwise also.Q1-9 Nikki Antonello

Below Renee has teamed up our Childs Play colelction with FREE Duchess paper cut-outs from the Kaisercraft Magazine. Gorgeous Renee!

Q1-9 - Renee Ludlow

And Renee created something a little extra this week – a card to match her layout still using the original sketch as inspiration!
